Inspiration

Residing in the conference room of the United Way (UW) of Benton, Lincoln, & Linn Counties as a public collection piece, Community was inspired by the landscapes of these counties. Each piece of this 5’ x 6’ intarsia mural was carefully drawn and cut from paper templates to wood colors and grain patterns to create a mosaic representative of the Willamette Valley farmland, coastal mountain range and Oregon coast that span these three counties.

Assembled on a custom plywood backer, these individual pieces were cut at the bandsaw and scroll saw and shaped to fit. The waves of the ocean were dyed with Elf’s cup fungal pigment - Chlorociboria spp. - from the Oregon State University Applied Mycology Laboratory.
